"Touch 'em All, Joe..."

The Toronto Star has an interview with Tom Cheek, who is the Toronto Blue Jays' radio guy, and who has called every single Jays regular-season and playoff game since the franchise was born in 1977. When I was young, there were many summer nights when I fell asleep listening to a Jays game called by Tom and his broadcast partner, Jerry Howarth. One great insight from the interview:

"Toronto is a great sports city, but it's also a winner's town. Fans in St. Louis or Boston will cut a guy a little slack, realize that there's an ebb and flow to the game. Sometimes Toronto fans are maybe a little impatient, a little jaded. You know, the only thing better than a winning baseball team here is a losing hockey team."

So true.

Very true. I'd listen to the games on CJCL pretty frequently, 'till I was like 13 or 14... then I lost it. I think it was the strike. I don't think I ever reconnected after that.

Also, not being able to afford to go to a game makes a difference.
