The gates to leave Christiania
Yesterday we went to Christiania (or, the "Free State of Christiania", to call it by its full name), an area of the city that was declared a sovreign state by the hippies that settled there after the Danish government abandoned it as an army barracks. It is technically no longer bound by the laws and conventions of Denmark and has its own government, co-operatives, schools, etc. While much of it was hippies selling the same junk one would find in any similar area of a big city, we found a great little outdoor cafe with a live jazz combo where we chilled, drank, and played cards.

Afterwards, we cruised by Nyhaven, an outdoor pedestian street bordered by a canal, where we people watched and hung out some more. It would have been nice to stay longer, but there is no shortage of open-air cafes or great people watching spots in Copenhagen, so we passed through after some cookies and cream.

We just got back from a day at the beach in Klampenborg, an affluent residential neighborhood a short 15 minute train ride from downtown Copenhagen. More chillin', reading, people watching, and frisbee tossing. I have not been to a beach since last summer in Vancouver, and I had forgotten how nice it is to hang out in the sun and do nothing. We are due for another beach trip in Sweden, I believe, as Andrew looks to fulfill his towel boy duties for the Swedish Bikini Team.
