I'm helping organize BarCamp Los Angeles (http://barcamp.org/BarCampLosAngeles). It's a geek event on March 4 & 5, the weekend before ETech. I wanted to get your take on [your company] sponsoring it. Here's the (brief) pitch: BarCamp: It's a weekend-long un-conference with the goal of bringing together interesting people in technology in Southern California to share ideas and learn from each other. Anyone is welcome, and all attendees are expected to give a demo, a session, or help with one. Benefits: - As a sponsor, you'll have your name listed on the event wiki, and we'll thank you at the of the conference - You can say a few words before a meal you sponsor, if you like. - You'll have your company's name associated with a hip, underground techie event, earn the goodwill and attention of 100 or so Californian alpha geeks in attendance, and countless others scattered across the country via the wiki. And all for just a few hundred bucks! Sponsorship options: - $500 for t-shirts - $200 for a meal (1 bkfst, 1 lunch, 1 dinners) - $100 for a day's coffee, water, and other liquids - $100 for event snacks - $100-$200 for an evening of beers - anything else you'd like to pitch in An overview of who contributed what at the (original) Palo Alto barcamp: - http://barcamp.org/index.cgi?BarSponsors Recent sponsors: - Company A - Company B - Company C Press: - http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,68610,00.html - Lots and lots of blogs Two things I want to make sure to stress: 1) Please don't sponsor BarCampLA as a favor to me. Do this if it makes sense for you or your business. I don't anticipate a shortage of sponsor interest. 2) If I had to choose between you attending the event and you sponsoring the event, I'd much rather you (and your team) attended!
