What the hell?!
Ok, I'm pissed off. The almighty IRS might have lost my tax return. I filed in mid-February via mail, and since it has been more than 6 weeks since I filed and have seen neither hide nor hair of a refund cheque, I called them today. I was told that "we might have lost the return, or it might not be entered into the system. We have no way of telling." These guys are all-powerful and they don't know if they have my return, even though I have USPS confirmation that says they do.
And the upshot of all this? If I call Monday and they have not found my return, I send another one. It could then take another six weeks before I see a refund. If they don't see it Monday, I send another one in and then they find my original one, it could take more than eight weeks from Monday before I see it.
Fucking organizational incompetence. I don't love incompetent employees, but that's why you have software systems--a simple Yes/No flag when the tax form is received, not processed, would prevent all this--they would be able to tell me whether they have the form or not. Grrr....
