I was in Boston on Friday night and had a great time.
Visited with Syam, Lucy, and Jaime--all good friends (and former co-workers) from ALS-TDF. It was good seeing them all and we had some interesting conversations...
I learned about a device that was built for Stephen Heywood, who is in the advanced stages of ALS. He has movement in his thumb, so this device can spell out words using thumb movement. It is attached to a computer, and so Stephen, who has been unable to communicate very well for the last 6 months or so, can now communicate with his friends and family via the 'net.
It's a very cool innovation that underscores the ability of the Internet to bring people together by enhancing methods of communication.
