La belle ville
Geneve and I were in Burlington, VT (~1.5 hours away) for her cousin's wedding on Saturday, so we hopped up to Montreal on Sunday afternoon. We had a great time--she went shopping with Jen, Rachel and Major Greg, while I caught up with Reefer, Mike, and Kristen to go to bongos (otherwise known as tam-tams).
Bongos is an event that takes place on Mount Royal every Sunday during the summer, rain or shine. Hundreds of people bring their bongos to the park, gather around the stature of Sir Georges-Étienne Cartier, and just play. People come to toss the disc or football, sunbathe, watch the world go by, puff some ganja, drink some beer, and basically just hang out. It is, in a word, chillin'.
Our gang headed off to Champs to watch Canada lose the last men's basketball Olympic bid to Puerto Rico.
Caught up with the girls and Major Greg on the terrasse at Le Sugar (literally: "The Sugar") and enjoyed a couple mojitos before turning in.
Monday we brunched at L'Avenue before meeting up with eBri, Ramy and Hideko, and an old highschool girlfriend, Katie, and her girl Liz. We shot le shit ("the shit") at Copacabana on The Main for a bit, but had to head back to the WH, unfortunately.
We left at a little past 7pm, and the 5.5 hour drive back went quickly. It was a great time that definitely felt a lot longer than the 30 hours that we were there.
Incidentally, here is a terribly accurate piece about living in Montreal that I found recently. It's bang-on, despite being written 6 years ago, and it makes me nostalgic for the city...
