I was watching game four of the Red Sox - A's division series yesterday afternoon, when something struck me as interesting. After Todd Walker hit a home run for the Sox to make the score 4-3 A's, I knew that the Red Sox would win the game.

The body language of the Sox players and the enthusiasm of the fans brought back memories of the championship Blue Jays teams of 1992 and 1993. Those guys had such spirit and talent, along with unhesitating faith from the fans, that no opposing team's lead was safe.

I saw that the Red Sox and their faithful believed yesterday, and sure enough, they ended up winning 5-4 on a clutch two-on, two-out, bottom-of-the-eighth, full-count double by David Ortiz.

It's interesting to see that even at the highest levels of sport, believing in (or even expecting) success can prove to be the competitive advantage that pushes a team over the top.

Game 5 of the series goes tonight, and it promises to be a doozy: Pedro vs. Barry Zito.
