BBC experiments, media consumers everywhere applaud
The UK's BBC.com has announced that it will make aired TV programs available via download on the web. According to Ashley Highfield, the BBC's director of New Media and Technology:
If we don't enter this market, then exactly what happened to the music industry could happen to us, where we ignore it, keep our heads in the sand and everybody starts posting the content up there and ripping us off.
It's bloody brilliant--TV shows have been available on peer to peer networks like Kazaa and BitTorrent for over a year now, and it's about time a media organization took some baby steps towards building a desirable service and developing a viable business model.
