TiVo Needs This

On the heels of Kottke's post, "Suggestions for TiVo", and a presentation on ESPN25 that I attended recently, I've got another idea for What Tivo (or ReplayTV, etc) Needs: a way to let people set their PVRs by clickable links on the web (similar to the way Apple provides a way to link to iTunes songs from the web).

ESPN25 has a roster of what promises to be really cool programming, and it would be huge boon to put a link on our site that, when clicked, would automagically set a visitor's TiVo to record one of the ESPN25 shows. Since TiVo now offers the ability to record shows from a web interface for free to all its customers (as does ReplayTV), it seems like it would be relatively simple for TiVo to release an API that would provide this functionality. In fact, maybe I should float this idea in the thriving Replay or TiVo developer comunities--they've proved to be incredibly useful while playing around with burning Replay shows with my new DVD burner.
