ETech: Bezos and Vertical Search

This morning, Jeff Bezos announced OpenSearch extensions that can easily be added to search verticals in A9. John Battelle has the full details.

Funny story while Bezos was firing up the demo: a WindowsUpdate popup came up asking if he wanted to install the latest update. Bezos, like most users, didn't read the text and clicked "Yes", then again clicked "Yes" to the followup popup which asked him if he wanted to reboot.

Keep in mind, this is in front of an audience of well over 200 people while he is giving a short 15-minute talk.

It couldn't be a more clear example that people don't read, so it's a good idea to make the user interface in your application self-explanatory.

Update: There's a great pic on Flickr of Bezos reacting to the situation.
